Wendy Kumeta is an exceptionally qualified and experienced academic, corporate consultant and entrepreneur. She received a PhD from the University of Cambridge, specializing in comparative literature and psychoanalysis. She received her M.A. in French Studies from Queen’s University. She has taught in the Caribbean, Canada and the UK (Queen’s University, Canada and the University of Cambridge, UK).
Her areas of research and pedagogy also include creative writing, literary and narrative theory, mythology, feminism and psychoanalysis. She has presented at many conferences on a broad range of academic topics and she has authored several articles and a book, My Mother, My Country: Reconstructing the Female Self (Peter Lang, 2003).
She is extremely well versed in the theories, principles and implementation of academic research and writing, composition and rhetoric and communications.
Wendy has guest lectured on Business Communications and Research and Writing methodologies at York University and Seneca College. She has also collaborated on the launch of a Certificate course in Local Economic Development at Ryerson University, which officially launched on May 2017.
Wendy also possesses 25 plus years of corporate experience in all aspects of communications, training and education, process improvement, change management, project management, Technology Consulting and client and relationship management. She has acquired global experience having worked in North America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. Her broad spectrum of experience and expertise spans both large and mid-sized corporations such as CIBC, Nortel and ISM to technology start-ups. Her clients have included Fortune 500 and 1000 members such as CIBC Commercial and PC Banking, Presidents Choice Financial, BCE Emergis, AT&T and the Chicago Board of Trade as well as the federal and provincial governments.
Throughout both her corporate and academic careers, Wendy has considerable experience designing and developing course curricula as well as pedagogical methodologies and strategies to achieve student success, with a broad and diverse population of students and adult learners. Wendy is also a mother to two children, one of whom is a current undergraduate at McMaster University and the other is a Grade 11 student in an International Baccalaureate program based in Richmond Hill, Ontario. It is her unique blend of corporate, academic and personal experiences which allow her to understand the real-life, genuine needs of her students enabling her to best prepare them for success in a challenging world.
Since the inception of Oxbridge Prep Academy in 2016, Wendy has been and is fully committed to delivering and sustaining excellence in literacy and education as a whole. Her days, nights and weekends are replete with engaged and dynamic online instruction, designing and updating curricula, strategizing with both students and parents on how best to achieve their academic and life goals throughout high school and for prestigious university admissions and scholarships. She also works with undergraduate and graduate students scaffolding their success in English and Humanities courses throughout their tertiary learning. Her core philosophy as an educator, academic and student advocate is based on the premise that academic and professional success stem from balance and sound physical and mental health. Wendy actively listens and engages with her students and parents to understand their needs and she works closely with them to create strategies which empower them and enable her students to become the best versions of themselves.
